Baptism FAQ

Learn more about baptism at Lighthouse Church

  • Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision to follow Jesus. It is a beautiful and powerful moment where you publicly declare your faith in Him. Going under the water represents the old life being buried, and coming up out of the water symbolises the new life you now have in Christ. Baptism does not save you - salvation comes through faith in Jesus - but it is a joyful act of obedience and celebration of what He has already done in your heart.

  • Baptism is for anyone who has personally made the decision to trust Jesus as Lord and Saviour. At Lighthouse, we practise believer’s baptism, which means the person being baptised understands their decision and has chosen to follow Jesus for themselves.

  • We celebrate baptisms on the last Sunday of every month during our regular worship service. These Sundays are always special as we gather together as a church family to celebrate life change. If you’re ready to take this step, we would love to help you prepare for the next available baptism Sunday!

  • No. The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is not what saves you - it is a public declaration of the salvation you have already received. It’s an important and meaningful step of obedience, but your salvation rests in Christ alone.

  • While we are respectful of different church traditions, at Lighthouse, we baptise those who are old enough to personally understand and profess their faith in Jesus.

If you were baptised as an infant and now have personally chosen to follow Jesus, you are very welcome to be baptised as a declaration of your own faith.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to dedicate your baby to the Lord, we offer Baby Dedications. A Baby Dedication is a special moment where parents commit to raising their child in the ways of Jesus, and our church family commits to praying for and supporting your family. We would love to talk with you about arranging a dedication service.

  • Baptism is not the finish line - it’s the beginning of a beautiful new season of growth.

We believe the first 40 days after baptism are especially significant. Often, when someone takes a bold step of faith, they may experience challenges, doubts, or spiritual opposition. Because of this, we are intentional about support and discipleship.

After your baptism, we will connect you with a trusted mentor who will walk alongside you during this important season. Your mentor will pray with you, encourage you, help you build healthy spiritual habits, and support you through any challenges. At Lighthouse, we believe no one should walk alone. We are committed to journeying with you as you grow in your relationship with Jesus.

  • Simply let us know you’re interested in being baptised. You can speak with one of our pastors or ministry team, or fill out a baptism interest form. We’ll guide you through the next steps and help you prepare for this meaningful moment.

If you have any questions at all, we would love to talk with you.
